Planning…. sometimes useless

This is what I’ve learned this week: sometimes daily planning is useless.

Let me explain.

Dai Jiemei and I are excellent planners and executers. But this week, we’ve had it confirmed to us (yet again) that God’s in charge and most days all He really needs is two warm bodies on bikes. Last Tuesday, we had some appointments scheduled on top of each other thanks to the Elders setting up street contacts for us. πŸ˜€ Without any difficulty, we found two members to help us go on splits. It was going to be pretty tight timing because we had a member set up to each lunch and introduce her neighbors to us… but luckily Dai Jiemei can keep up with my speedy biking. Prayed about that schedule and felt great about it. Went to sleep. Woke up the next morning, went running, discussed plans in Companionship Study, and went out the door knowing exactly what was going down and still feeling great about it. Got to the church and it all went out the window.

What we ended up doing looked nothing like our plan … but it was because the people we needed to see, we hadn’t met yet. We ended up placing three copies of the Book of Mormon in an hour and having some incredibly spiritual moments with people who’ve seen missionaries but never really understood what they were doing. One important thing we’ve sorted out is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not have a monopoly on the Truth. Nor have we ever claimed that. What we do claim is that we are the only Church with the authority of God. As true doctrine is studied, the importance of that authority is realized…. and people come find us. Every knows who Mormon Missionaries are. And the most of them know where to find us… in fact, while writing this email, I has a lady call me that I don’t know. She knows what appartment complex we live in. She simply said she’s seen us around and wants to know more. No idea how she got our number… but she set up and we’ll see on Friday what comes of it. That’s how missionary work happens. As you let people have the truth, you don’t need to worry about them. The Holy Ghost will guide them and if you let the Holy Ghost guide you, you two will meet up and they will get baptized. That’s how it’s designed… πŸ˜€

Sorry this week was really short — working on some things for President, then headed to go eat with some members who needs some love. πŸ˜€ I will attach some photos from last pday. Super fun!! πŸ˜€ Went to a place called Shan Shang Ren Jia (Mountain Top People Home) that’s in Zhu Dong. Had some really gaoji food and loved seeing my old companion Yang Jiemei!

Love,

Sister Oler
